When it comes to hotels, I love to frequent places that are one of a kind. Whether they have a boutique, historic, or bed and breakfast vibe, I enjoy claiming a space for a night or two in a unique place – and the Gettysburg Hotel is just that!
I was invited by Destination Gettysburg to experience the Adams County Pour Tour. While I was there, I stayed at the historic Gettysburg Hotel. All opinions are my own.
Heading to Gettysburg and need a place to stay? I was in town recently and stayed at the Gettysburg Hotel. With its central location, spacious rooms, and a pool (on the rooftop!), it definitely has a lot to offer.
The Gettysburg Hotel
the area
Having a place to stay where you can easily walk to shops, restaurants, and historic spots is a lot of fun! I had never been to Gettysburg before (despite being from Pennsylvania), and when I pulled up to the hotel, I was so excited that it was located in such a fun area. It’s right on the roundabout in the town center.
It’s part of the Historic Hotels of America and has been around since 1797. Talk about longevity! And the address is 1 Lincoln Square – if you are a history buff, it really doesn’t get much better than that. The building itself has been modernized and is in a very safe area.
the lobby
When you arrive at the hotel, it’s bright, airy, and welcoming. They have nice seating areas in both the lobby and in a sitting room, which is great for reading or meeting. If you are hungry, they have a restaurant – One Lincoln – and a Starbucks. Although, I love local so much that I headed out to a locally owned coffee shop to grab some joe to go.
the rooms
I can only speak to my room, but it was more than adequate space wise. Two closets (yes, 2!), a huge bathroom with a jetted tub, a fireplace, desk, and comfy bed were all mine for two nights. The curtains in the room were darkening so that the light didn’t bother me in the morning or at night.
There is also a coffee maker in the room, and – toiletry snob here – fabulous toiletries! I also appreciated the fact that the room had so much natural light. I didn’t need to turn on the lights for any of the photos below. So nice!
the view
I’ll admit that when I pulled up to the hotel, my first thought was, “Please let me have a room facing the circle near the top floor,” and my wish was granted. I didn’t even have to ask. I loved watching the life going on outside of my window, and can we just talk about that sky? So gorgeous!
the rooftop pool
I always take a swimsuit with me wherever I travel because you never know when there will be a pool, spa, or even a waterfall. I was glad that the Gettysburg Hotel had a pool. It was on the roof, which made it even more fun. It was a bit overcast but still warm, so I decided to venture up.
So, no matter your reason to head to Gettysburg – history, culture, or the pour tour – be sure to consider the Gettysburg Hotel in your plans.

This looks like a fantastic little hotel to visit. I love all the wonderful decor it has a lovely fresh vibe to it. Just lovely.
I am loving the look of this charming and quaint hotel. The beds do look comfortable but for me the rooftop pool does sell it for me (especially if I was to stay there in the summer months). I never actually seen photos of the town before and Gettsyburg looks like a quiet place to check out. I know its an historic place but my knowledge of it is very poor so I need to get out here and learn. Would seriously consider staying here as well.
We missed a stop in Gettysburg when we last visited Pennsylvania. But if we do visit, it looks like the Gettysburg Hotel is a good boutique hotel option. I am sure there would be great stories if the walls of the hotel could talk. Such history! I love hotels with lots of natural light. Hate feeling like I am staying in a cave! And that rooftop pool would be a great post to relax after a busy day touring.
I love boutique bed and breakfasts, and those with some history to them are especially appealing. Location is always a must for me as I’m limited on how far I can walk, so the fact The Gettysburg is close to local shops and restaurants is ideal. The furnishings in the public spaces looks a bit mundane but the rooms look elegant and comfortable and what a lovely view from yours! That rooftop pool is the cherry on the cake!
I am impressed with your photos of the interior of the hotel; they are very professional and encourage you to stay in it. I love the pools on the roofs of buildings. Views from the windows look great, too. So the Gettysburg Hotel is inviting me, for sure.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me about the photography – I’m trying!! 🙂
A historic hotel can always attract my attention. It shows the past lifestyle while offers every comfort for the guests. It has not only luxury but also cultural value.
This hotel looks great and such a cute little town. It is great that the building has been refurbished and used well and it’s still going after all this time. The rooms look nice and the views are great. I have to admit though I like the rooftop pool, I can imagine myself up there and enjoying the view of historic downtown.
I also like staying at the historical building like the Gettysburg Hotel. The lobby is beautiful, and the room looks cozy. You got me at the toiletries, too. And I’m sure we will enjoy the roof top pool. That is something.
With so much history in Gettysburg and the surrounding cities it would be fun to spend time in the area. The hotel is in the best location – looks like you don’t really need to rent a car. Love that there was a fireplace in the room.
1797 got me right away. Who wouldn’t want to stay in something so historic? Everything looks subtle and classy about the place. I like rooms with views of the city. The rooftop bar has nice vibes about it.
What I think about when hearing or reading about a historic places and hotel, my initial perception was that the place may be too creepy with old kinds of stuff and rustic kinda place. This hotel is exceptional though. It’s not too old nor too modern. It’s more of having a place like home.
