I’ll definitely admit that I love to travel. That’s evident! I also adore saving money…and when I can save money so that I can travel, I consider that a big win. From having decluttering yard sales to scouring clearance racks for good deals, I adore the thrill of the hunt and feeling like I’m saving by doing “normal” things. Well, what if I told you that there was a product comparison app that could help you save in the long run?
I don’t know how you feel about generics or store brands, but my experience with them has been…interesting. I have found products I love and loathe by trial and error, and I’ve actually recommended certain store brands to others. We all enjoy a bit of saving here and there, right?
Enter Brandefy…the product comparison app!
Think of it as having your trusted friend tell you the pros and cons of each product. Whether it’s price, taste, smell, feel, or overall effectiveness, Brandefy allows you to read comparison reviews of various products. And it also allows you to upload reviews so that others can benefit from your opinions before they splurge on products. What a win/win!
As a sidebar, Brandefy is a startup company that began in my home state of Virginia by two women. I think it’s fabulous to support local ladies who had a great idea!
I’m going to tell you about a few of the products I tested along the way.
My First Haul of Travel Items
Below is a photo of my first comparison purchase at Target. I tried to find items that were similar so that I could review them on Brandefy’s product comparison app. I’m not reviewing all of the items below yet, but I chose seven to highlight.
Let’s face it. Travel sizes aren’t always economical, yet who wants to pack their suitcase with full sized products? If you decide to pack a carry-on (please do!), you need to keep things at 100 mL or less, so the sizes I chose below are perfect taking for the plane.
Healing Dry Skin Moisturizer – Jergen’s vs. Up & Up
Review: I usually have lotion for my hands. After using hand sanitizer or being in the drying environment of an airplane, it’s good to give skin a bit of moisture. Again, the main ingredients are the same, and for all intents and purposes, I’d say they provided the same amount of hydration.
Winner: Both! If you want to save money, you’re definitely safe going with the Up & Up brand.
SPF 30 Sport Sunscreen – Banana Boat vs. Up and Up
Review: I recently went on a trip to Sonoma County, CA, and I knew I would have to take sunscreen. It was the perfect opportunity to review a name brand with a generic for a product comparison app. The results? The Banana Boat was a bit thicker, which made it a tad more difficult to spread. I wore them on different body parts on the same day, and both kept me from getting burned. Yay!
Winner: Because sunscreen is so expensive, I’m just going to go with the Up & Up brand here. They were the same in main ingredients and effectiveness, but I want to save those funds so I can travel more!
Aloe Hand Sanitizer – Purell vs. Up & Up
Review: Having hand sanitizer on hand is a huge must while traveling – or at home! With all of the people moving around in public places, it’s good to have a safe way to keep healthy. So, why not review two different ones for Brandefy’s product comparison app? These felt the same, smelled the same, and – as far as I can tell – worked the same as I tested them out at a local college football game.
Winner: Again, both! The price difference for this size was pretty minimal, so you could “splurge” on the name brand, but both are a-ok in my book.
Of course, when it comes to travel, having hydrating, quality facial products is important. And if products can do double duty, it’s even better. I road tested these last two products while on a trip to Gettysburg, PA for a pour tour. So fun!
SPF 30 Moisturizing Facial Lotion – CeraVe vs. Up and Up
Review: Speaking of doing double duty, this pair of lotions provides facial hydration along with having sunscreen to stave off aging and sun damage. I was actually surprised by how similar these two items were! Even the packaging looks so alike as do the bottle shapes.
Winner: Both! But because of the price differential, it’s better to go with Target’s Up & Up brand.
Makeup Remover Towelettes – Neutrogena vs. Up and Up
Review: I can’t tell you HOW convenient these are for travel. Honestly, I would probably only use this type of cleanser while traveling, but the fact that it isn’t a liquid is fabulous. And they both took off my super stubborn waterproof mascara. Any product that can tackle that task easily is a huge help to me!
They both smelled similar and worked well for taking off my makeup before I went to bed. They also left behind a bit of hydration so that I didn’t need to put on moisturizer afterward.
Winner: Again, the Up & Up. I would totally trust my face to the generic on this one!
I pack a LOT of snacks when I travel – especially if they can pass for healthy! They are a quick source of energy and flavor when I’m craving something on the go.
Fruit Snacks – Annie’s Organic vs. Simply Balanced Organic
Review: For these two items, the ingredient lists and nutritional values were pretty much the same, but the difference for me came down to the texture. I am SUCH a texture person when it comes to foods. The flavor of both fruit snacks was yummy, yet the Annie’s were a bit sticky. The texture of the Annie’s was also a bit…odd? Soft, squishy, but not in a way that I want in my fruit snacks.
Winner: Simply Balanced definitely came out on top because of the texture alone. Although I’m not disappointed in the Annie’s. I would take either along with me on a trip for a quick snack, but I’ll be purchasing Simply Balanced in the future.
Squeezable Applesauce – Gogo Squeez vs. Market Pantry
Review: I actually like that the Market Pantry (Target brand) offers more nutrition information than the GoGo Squeez one. I’m just going to come right out and say that I had the Market Pantry one first and loved it…then I tasted the GoGo Squeeze one, and it was hardly palatable. Target’s brand was sweeter, so maybe that had something to do with it, but I literally couldn’t stomach the GoGo Squeez one. Yikes!
Winner: Obviously the Market Pantry one.
And – Brandefy is FREE!
